THE annual Dollar Gala was a massive success with beautiful weather all weekend.

Some suggested this year’s event was the best they had attended for a long time, said the organisers from Dollar Community Council, who were “thrilled at the positive feedback”.

The weekend of activities kicked-off with children’s discos on Friday in the gala marquee, organised by Strathdevon Parent Council.

Housing several key events, the marquee was reintroduced by the community council’s events committee this year.

Saturday’s events began at noon with children gathering for the Fancy Dress Parade at Dollar Academy.

Then the traditional procession took place, travelling down to the Market Park.

This was led by fresh British champions Dollar Academy Pipe Band, followed by the Guest of Honour Yvette Paden, the Gala King Adam Gilfoyle, the Gala Queen Rebekah Keaveney and their attendants.

The Fancy Dress Competitions were won by Luke Wayne, Nina Kacmarska and Shaynia Morgan – the Best Window Display went to the Post Office.

Displaying excellent dancing skills was Alloa Ballet Company mid-afternoon and around the field, people could enjoy rides and activities.

These included bungee trampolines, human demolition, moonwalker, teacups, an army assault course and much more.

Returning after many years was the Tug O’ War Competition, won by Dollar Cricket Club.

Many local community groups had their own stalls while the marquee had around 30 tables in operation.

The BBQ was popular too with burgers from local butcher Brian Devlin.

There was a raffle in the afternoon and kids’ races and competitions during the day.

The After Gala Family Ceilidh returned after a long absence with the Dollarfield Ceilidh Band.

A community council spokesperson said: “The weather makes all the difference and as a result the numbers attending were significantly up on recent years with some suggesting it was the best gala they had attended for a long time.”

They also thanked supporting organisations, those who donated prizes, entertainers and those who manned stalls as well as the “willing band of volunteers” who made the gala a success.

The event was supported by many local groups and businesses with funding from Foundation Scotland’s EDF Burnfoot Hill Community Fund.
