PIPERS and drummers from Dollar Academy were yet again successful at the UK Championships at the weekend.

The Novice A and the Juvenile Pipe Bands competed in Belfast's Stormont Park on Saturday and bot bands performed very well.

Alloa and Hillfoots Advertiser:

The juveniles retained their champion title, winning their 10th consecutive majors over the past three years.

Travelling to Belfast for the first time, the Novice A band also won their category at the prestigious event.

Mr Stewart, piping instructor, said: “The Novice Band started the day with an entertaining march, strathspey and reel. The group offered a well-presented sound and were ably supported by the young drum corps, thereby setting the standard for everyone to follow.

“There were smiles all around with hardly a minute to enjoy the moment before the Juvenile Band began their competition preparation.”

Alloa and Hillfoots Advertiser:

The Juvenile category attracts entries from the best young bands in the country. The standard they must meet is modelled upon the Adult Grade One criteria.

This competition featured a selection of music called the medley, where hornpipes, jigs, a slow air, strathspeys and reels along with a modern waltz have been cleverly put together by pipe major Matt Wilson; this was supported by an uplifting drum score written by Mr Lee Innes.
