A CLACKS mum will use pedal power to raise money for her daughter's school, by cycling nearly 1000 miles.

Marion Riddell is getting on her bike to cover a distance that is the equivalent of going from Land's End to John o' Groats.

She is taking on the mammoth challenge to help Lochies in Sauchie, which provides support and learning for children with special needs.

She says they go "above and beyond" at the school and is hoping to raise money to help with the £10,000 cost of a new, modified mini-bus for the youngsters.

The self-confessed summer cyclist has already been clocking up the miles which has seen her travelling to the likes of Bridge of Allan, Auchterarder, Bridge or Earn, Braco and Culross in all weathers.

Marion said: "Isla has cerebral palsy and chronic lung disease and is also profoundly deaf.

"Despite that, she is a very happy child and loves attending Lochies.

"It is a fantastic school and staff provide pupils with the support they need to make progress at their own pace and give them as wide a range of experiences as possible.

"A new minibus will allow them to continue to get out and about and enjoy activities they might not otherwise be able to.

"Being a small school in Scotland’s smallest county, raising this amount of money is challenging."

The Pool of Muckhart resident, who is also on the school's parent council, will cover a total of 969 miles.

She hopes to complete her feat before the new school term in August and will fit in her cycles whenever she can, in order to achieve her goal.

Marion hopes to reach a fundraising target of £1000 through the challenge and has set-up a Just Giving page where people can show their support and donate.

She said: "I think it's a really good cause and it's nice to feel that I'm doing something for the school because they are a really super school – they do really go above and beyond.

"My husband Iain and I are so grateful that the school is there for us as well as Isla and a fundraising cycle is something that I hope I can fit in around Isla’s needs.

"Starting off from Muckhart should also mean I cover a few hills as well as a few miles."

To donate please visit Marion's fundraising page or contact her on 01259 781235.
