THE "stunning" Wee County landscape will take centre stage as athletes swim, bike and run their way through the Harviestoun Triathlon later this year.

Following on from the successful inaugural event in 2017, entrants can tackle the long, short or novice courses in either late May or at the end of September.

Hosted by Harviestoun Estate, which has engaged Clacks Active to plan and run them, the aim is to encourage people from a wide range of fitness levels to get out and enjoy the nearby areas.

Sean McFarlane, director of Clacks Active, said: "[It's] a challenging and really fun event with a very much 'something for everyone' feel.

"It also takes you through some of the most stunning adventure landscapes that we have right here in Clackmannanshire

"It's a relatively small and very friendly event with three race distances designed for all abilities.

"We have a big focus this year on the novice distance race which is aimed at those people who have always fancied giving a triathlon a go but think it's beyond them."

The idea for the triathlon originally came about through a chat Sean, a seasoned triathlete, had with Nick Poett, of Harviestoun Estate, about the potential of the land.

Having long trained on it himself, Sean knew it would make for a good course and 95 per cent of last year's event was held there, with purpose-built tracks even set up.

Clacks Active, which was established in 2012, was keen to use its expertise to help with the Harviestoun Triathlon.

The spring time race will take place on Sunday, May 27, with the autumn date set for Saturday, September 29.

Sean said: "On each occasion we have three separate race distances – long, short and novice.

"For this year we also have full changing facilities at Dollar Academy, which is most welcome."

The long course will consist of a 1000km swim, 16k off road bike, 9k hill run, including ascent and descent of Kings Seat, 648 metres.

The short includes a 500m swim, 8k off road bike, 5k hill run, including ascent and descent of Bank Hill, 346 metres.

Meanwhile the novice event offers a 150m swim, 8k off road bike and 2k flat run.
