A PUBLIC consultation on Forth Valley college"s plans for a £21 million new Alloa campus will take place today (Thursday).

Planners, architects and transport consultants will be on hand to answer any questions at the information event held in Alloa Town Hall between 12pm and 7pm. Computer generated artwork of the proposed campus, incorporating the latest construction techniques and education facilities, will be on display from respected architectural firm Reiach and Hall.

It comes as council officials received an application from the college to demolish the existing ALLOA centre in Hillcrest Drive (former site of Hawkhill primary school) to make way for the state-of-the-art campus. And, if detailed plans are approved by Clackmannanshire Council later this year, work could start on the site as early as March 2010 with a July 2011 opening.

The 5000sqm campus will be the largest investment in a public sector building Alloa has seen for decades and is part of a £50 million investment by the college - courtesy of one of the largest-ever awards made by the Scottish Funding Council - which includes a new Stirling build.

The town hall event will also feature information on courses available at the college with demonstrations from students in areas such as robotics, plumbing, decorating and science.

Forth Valley College Principal Linda McKay said, 'These first glimpses of how the new campus will look are extremely exciting and provide a tangible focus for what we are all working hard to achieve.

'One of our main aims is to involve the local community as much as possible in the planning process and we look forward to hearing the views and opinions of members of the public at the information event to be held in Alloa Town Hall today (Thursday).'

It is hoped those who attend the drop-in event will complete a questionnaire to help collate views on the new campus, however all suggestions, comments and queries on the proposals will be welcomed by the college up until 5 June by email on estatesinfo@forthvalley.ac.uk
