A TEENAGE boy has been injured in Kincardine after falling off the back of a bus in what police are calling a "bus surfing" incident.

The 13-year-old boy was taken to Stirling Royal Infirmary with facial injuries last Tuesday night when police and ambulance staff were called to the town's Toll Road around 8.45pm.

Reports initially suggested that the boy had been knocked down by a bus but police say that he lost his grip on the back of a bus which he was "surfing". Enquiries confirmed that the boy had climbed onto the rear of the bus and had subsequently fallen off causing injuries to his face.

Inspector Lindsey Black from Fife Constabulary said, " This incident stems from a practice known to us as 'surfing' where buses are used by youngsters to hang on to whilst travelling through town.

"Thankfully we are aware of only one other incident in the Central Fife area but that too led to an injury being caused to the 'surfer'. I would condemn this practice in the strongest terms.

"Youngsters can be seriously injured or killed pursuing this activity and Fife Police will prosecute at every opportunity in order to nip this in the bud but I would also appeal to parents to ensure their children are not exposing themselves to this type of danger. A report is being submitted to the Reporter to the Children's Panel in connection with the most recent incident."

If you have information that would assist Fife Police please phone 0845 600 5702 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
