A SAUCHIE fundraiser who has worked tirelessly to raise thousands of pounds for the Yorkhill Children's Foundation was hailed as an Unsung Hero at a glittering national awards ceremony.
Seamus Corry was presented with the Unsung Hero Award at this year's Herald Society awards ceremony at Glasgow's Hilton Hotel last Wednesday, after raising over £7000 for the children's charity.
Seamus began fundraising for Yorkhill along with his partner Haldis in 2007 after the tragic death of Lewis Martin - the 19-week-old son of their friends Brian and Anne.
Lewis suffered from Cardiomyopathy - a condition affecting the heart muscles and spent almost three weeks battling the illness in Yorkhill Hospital before his untimely death.
Seamus and Haldis raised over £3000 by walking over hot coals and since then Seamus's fundraising efforts have continued to go from strength to strength.
Delight
He told the Advertiser, "I was absolutely delighted to receive the Unsung Hero award and it was an amazing night.
"There was a very high calibre of entries and it was just amazing when they called my name out - I couldn't believe it.
"I am especially delighted for Yorkhill as this is only the second year of the award and to get shortlisted and then go on and win is just as incredible for them.
"All the volunteers at Yorkhill give their time so freely to support the Children's Foundation so I was accepting the award on their behalf also.
"More importantly I was accepting it on behalf of all the parents who have children in Yorkhill - they are the true Unsung Heroes as they have to deal with it all day in and day out, so anything I can do to help I am truly honoured."
Seamus is currently concentrating his efforts on recycling boxes, which are proving extremely successful and continue to raise vital funds for Yorkhill's Children's Foundation.
"I would like to thank everyone who offered their support and good wishes in the days before the awards ceremony, and to everyone who has supported what I have being doing for Yorkhill in Clackmannanshire over the last few years, especially with the recycling which has really taken off," said Seamus.
Kirsten Sinclair, community fundraiser for Yorkhill Children's Foundation, added, "On behalf of everyone involved with Yorkhill Children's Foundation, we would like to extend our congratulations to Seamus Corry on his recent achievement.
Passion
"Seamus is an extremely valuable member of our volunteer network, and his support, determination and sheer passion for the cause is admirable.
"Seamus has raised over £7000 for Yorkhill Children's Foundation in recent years through a whole host of fundraising ventures including a local can collection service, and a recycle appeal in the Clackmannanshire area.
Support
"His contribution enables us to continue providing the 'extra' services and equipment that can help to make a child's stay at Yorkhill Hospital as easy and comfortable as possible, and we are delighted that his efforts have not gone unrecognised.
"Seamus always goes beyond and above, and we are very thankful to have his support."
