POLICE in Alloa arrested 39 people for various offences including selling alcohol to underage teenagers in a 24-hour operation.
Operation Lightship was carried out on 4 December and saw officers responding to issues raised by the community and included visiting licensed premises, carrying out knife searches, enforcing outstanding warrants and detecting motoring offences - with 39 people being reported to the Procurator Fiscal.
Leading the operation, Sergeant Craig Rankine said, "This initiative demonstrated our ability locally to respond, in an intelligence led manner, to issues which have an impact on the quality of life of residents in the Clackmannanshire area.
Commitment
"Central Scotland Police is committed to ensuring that we do everything possible to reassure the public that we are tackling their concerns effectively, in a pro-active and high profile manner.
"We will continue to deliver similar initiatives over the festive period to ensure we continue to meet this objective."
Officers carried out knife searches on 164 people entering some licensed premises using hand held metal detectors. No knives or weapons were found.
Sergeant Rankine went on, "We are pleased that nobody was found to be carrying any weapons entering licensed premises.
"We will be carrying out this type of search again in the near future."
Under age
Licensed premises in the town centre were visited by police and in one officers found three door staff to be operating without the proper licence and six teenagers under 18 years old were found to have been served alcohol.
Sergeant Rankine added, "Inquiries into these offences are still ongoing. It is vital that door staff are properly licensed and that those underage do not get served.
"Door staff have a vital role to play in ensuring that those underage do not get entry to licensed premises or served alcohol.
"As a consequence if this does happen, invariably instances of disorder increases in the town centre. We are keen to ensure that the run up to and during the festive period is safe for everyone."
