A KIND-hearted fundraiser is aiming to raise £3000 for Great Ormond Street Hospital by walking the Great Wall of China.

Marjon Rodenberg-Abro, who works at Strathdevon Nursery in Dollar, needs to raise the funds to allow her to take on the Asian challenge of walking 85 kilometres over nine days.

She will take on the tough terrain with 25 other fundraisers in October 2010 in what will undoubtedly be the experience of a lifetime.

Marjon told the Advertiser, "I need to raise £3000 to be able to do it.

"You do it through the hospital's challenge team and can do anything at all from a 5K run to a walk in Peru.

"I remember hearing about the Great Wall from a young age and have always wanted to do it.

"I want to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital as I have three kids of my own, and while I have been lucky enough that they haven't needed it, many others do."

As well as putting money to it herself, Marjon is working hard to raise as much as she can through donations.

She continued, "I started with a ladies night and all the money went to the fund, and I had a stall at the Christmas fayre at Strathdevon Primary School."

Marjon has been blown away by the level of support her family, friends and work colleagues are giving her.

"My husband will be taking time off work to support the family when I am in China.

"The staff and the head teacher at the school have also been fantastic," she added.

The mother-of-three says her kids have been telling everyone that "mummy is going to walk the wall" and she hopes to do just that in 2010.
