PUPILS in class P4/5 at Muckhart Primary School and teacher Lesley McGlinchie show off their igloo. Fingall Hall is pictured below at the entrance to the igloo.
MUCKHART Primary could be mistaken for the North Pole during last week's big freeze when an igloo appeared in the school's playground.
Fourteen primary four and five pupils spent the day building the igloo as part of a project into polar lands and are using their creation as an outdoor classroom.
Teacher Lesley McGlinchie told the Advertiser, "We have being doing a topic on polar lands in class so I thought it was a good idea to make use of the weather and the resources we had. It all just tied in perfectly.
"The snow was quite icy so we cut big blocks of it to build the igloo and used snow to fill in the spaces. It was quite a challenge but the school's handy man was very helpful and lifted some of the blocks for us as they were really heavy.
"We have been working on outdoor learning the past year and we have been trying to do as many things as possible outside.
"I read an Innuit story to the pupils in the igloo which they enjoyed and are planning to do science experiments in it to do with ice and freezing."
