Dorothy Stewart is delighted with the way Curves Gym in Alloa has helped her change her life.

A DOLLAR slimmer who dropped five dress sizes for her daughter's wedding has been named as Curvette of the Year by the Alloa gym Curves.

The competition, in its second year in Scotland, aims to find a Curves member who has not only lost weight and inches through Curves but who has also experienced positive life changes since joining the woman's only gym.

Dorothy Stewart (51) has gone from a size 20 to12 since she joined Curves in January 2009 and said that her decision to join Curves to lose weight and tone up was a life changing one.

She told the Advertiser, "My daughter was getting married so that really was the impetus for me joining. I had bought an outfit which was a size 14 and I wanted to fit into that - although I have ended up beating my target.

"I had struggled with my weight for most of my life and although I tried various diets I never really took the exercise part on board before but all the staff and members at Curves are so encouraging and friendly.

"Since joining Curves there have been some really positive changes in my life and my confidence has soared. I have a lot more energy and I am a lot more active.

"I had to take a second look when I saw the pictures of me at my daughter's wedding. I couldn't believe it was me because I was so different compared to pictures of my niece's wedding which were taken the year before.

Encouragement

"I can enjoy going shopping again and it is a great excuse to buy new clothes because none of my old ones fit me any more. Although I don't diet any more I eat healthily and sensibly and I am determined to keep the weight off.

"Going to Curves has never been embarrassing, intimidating or stressful as everyone is so supportive and encouraging. I have and always will recommend Curves to my family and friends."

Dorothy will join 20 other finalists to compete for the title of Scottish Curvette of the Year in January/February 2010 with the overall UK winner being announced this month.

Liz O'Brien, Owner of Curves Alloa, said, "This is the second year that the UK has searched for its Curvette of the Year and we have been astounded by the response from our members.

"We've had some great applications from some very motivated and inspiring women but Dorothy's story is exceptional and she should be extremely proud of what she's achieved so far at Curves.

"Everyone at the Alloa club wish Dorothy the very best of luck in the next stage of the competition."
