THE giant log of wood, set to tell the tale of Alloa, has arrived at the Make Room on Drysdale Street.
Soon to be a story pole similar to the traditional North American totem pole, the 12ft trunk arrived on Friday.
Upon its arrival the big chiefs in charge of the Imagine Alloa project decided that it would be their indians, the QTS workers, who would have to carry it in to the studio. Luckily the heavy delivery was after the lads had eaten their morning porridge and it wasn't long before they had moved it into the art hub.
Local wood artist Richard Douglas, along with well-known wood carver Kenny Grieve, offered locals the chance to drop into the Make Room to take part in wood carving workshops on Thursday and Friday.
Richard will be back at the Make Room every week to allow anyone interested in turning their hand to wood carving the chance to give it a go.
He said, "People can come in, talk to us and pick up the tools and give it a go. Anyone can give it a shot and if the interest is there we could start a wood carving group."
Richard has started work on the pole and the first design to be sculpted is Patons beehive - the logo of the town's former mill.
Those coming along to give the wood carving a go can also make their designs for the pole on cardboard tubes to get an idea of how it will look.
A suggestion sheet is available for designs to go on the story pole.
Richard will be at the Make Room from 2 to 4pm on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays for the next few weeks until the story pole is complete.
