CLACKMANNANSHIRE residents gave their backing to local events organised to boost Scotland's bid to become a Fairtrade nation.
The annual Fairtrade Fortnight event ended on Sunday and representatives from the Scottish Fairtrade forum were in Alva last week to talk about the progress of the bid.
Alva's No. 140 shop and Alva Academy welcomed the visitors including a Palestinian expert who talked about the life-changing impact Scottish Fairtrade purchasing has had on Palestine.
The shop in West Stirling Street, Alva, specialises in selling Fairtrade products such as chocolate, tea, coffee and crafts, and all the profits go to charity.
Ochil MSP Keith Brown was welcomed to the shop by group chairman George Forsyth and joined by Betsy Reed, the Director of the Scottish Fairtrade Forum, and representatives of the Palestinian Company which produces Zatoun Oil, which is sold in the shop.
Betsy Reed, Director of the Scottish Fair Trade Forum said, "Small groups like this one in Alva are very important if we are to achieve our goal of making Scotland a Fairtrade Nation."
Keith Brown added, "I would like to encourage the people of Clackmannanshire to visit the shop to see for themselves the products on offer and where possible to choose Fairtrade goods as this will help to contribute to making a difference to the livelihoods of farmers, workers and their communities."
As part of the fortnight of efforts, a shop run by Forth Valley College students with learning difficulties was open in Alloa. It was located in the former Poundland shop and all funds will be given to the Fairtrade supplier of all the goods.
