SEVEN suspected dealers have been arrested as Central Scotland Police continue to fight the menace of drugs in the Wee County.
On Friday and Saturday five men and two women were arrested in Alloa and Tullibody in connection with the supply of class A drugs. Cocaine and diazepam were amongst the £6000 worth of drugs to be seized.
And it wasn't just dealers being targeted in their homes.
Those selling drugs in or near pubs and clubs, without the premises owners' knowledge or consent, have been charged by police as they look to crack down on cocaine and ecstasy use.
Intelligence
Detective Inspector Charlie Mitchell, from the force's Drugs and Organised Crime Unit, said, "This has been a significant intelligence led operation focused on the availability of drugs like cocaine and ecstasy within some licensed venues in Alloa.
"Quantities of class A drugs have been recovered during the course of the operation and by targeting the networks responsible for drug distribution we are ensuring communities are safer as a result."
The raids come just over a week after dealers in Tullibody and Tillicoultry were targeted in a high profile attempt to weed out low-level drug dealers.
The previous operation, which relied upon tip-offs from the local community, recovered a handgun, cannabis resin, heroin and £1600 in cash.
Superintendent Alan Douglas (pictured above) said, "Officers in Clackmannanshire are committed to making sure this area is as safe for the public as possible and that means tackling criminals wherever they operate.
"Having become aware of the availability of cocaine in and around some licensed premises, it was important that positive steps were taken to reduce that supply.
"Police work regularly with our partners in health to ensure that anyone who uses such drugs has routes to help with their substance abuse."
He added, "Cocaine can often be perceived as a 'clean' drug but it can often be of very low quality and cut with a range of substances. Law enforcement partners including the Scottish Crime and Drug Enforcement Agency and the Scottish Police Service have also sought to address the wider issues linked to cocaine.
"Someone taking cocaine in Alloa is the end user of a worldwide network of production, distribution and profit based on addiction, violence, profit and environmental destruction."
Arrests
A total of 16 people were arrested across Forth Valley with £20,000 worth of cannabis resin and amphetamine recovered in Camelon.
In the Cornton area of Stirling £5000 worth of drugs and £4000 in cash were seized by police.
Chief Superintendent Gordon Samson, head of Communities Policing, said, "Our force is very firmly focused on the priorities of tackling drugs and organised crime in our communities.
"These results show that specialist detectives and community constable are working hard to make the public safe and attack the supply of drugs on our streets."
