FIREFIGHTERS spent two hours tackling a blaze at the old Alloa Academy on Friday evening.
Flames broke out in the second floor of the now derelict building at around 5.25pm and five appliances were sent to deal with the fire.
A total of 27 firefighters, from Alloa, Stirling, Larbert and Tillicoutry, were involved in tackling the blaze.
Twelve of the firefighters were required to use breathing apparatus due to the high level of smoke and there was a delay in entering the building due to the security doors having to be forced open.
The follow evening firefighters from Alloa had to return to the school at 11.50pm to extinguish a further fire that had taken place in the ceiling area.
Nine firefighters from Alloa attended the incident.
Investigations are ongoing into the cause of both fires with the fire and police services unable to confirm if they were started maliciously.
In the past few months locals have complained the building has been subject to vandalism with youths making their way inside and smashing windows.
Clackmannanshire Council's Director of Services to People, Grahame Blair, said, "The former Alloa Academy building has been subject to vandalism over the past few weeks.
"The demolition contractor has a full-time watchman employed at the site and he discovered the fire in a classroom and called the fire brigade on Friday.
"In addition to the watchman, the council's community wardens have now been asked to patrol the site in an attempt to improve security."
