A TULLIBODY-based charity in memory of Brionni Alexander who died at just 11-months-old is holding an anniversary walk 10 years after its original walk raised nearly £30,000.

The Brionni Trust is a small independent charity which was set up in memory of Brionni who was born with a genetic condition called Spinal Muscular Atrophy which damages the spinal cord resulting in muscle weakness and respiratory problems.

The charity raises awareness and fundraises to help improve the lives of terminally ill children and their families and was set up in 2000 after a fundraising walk on 3 June that year which was originally meant to be for family and friends.

However, interest in the walk grew and on the day over 200 people took part joining Brionni, who was at the original walk, and her mum and dad Tracy and Gareth.

The commemorative walk will take place on Saturday 5 June and will be an 11.5-mile walk from the Auld Toon Tavern in Grangemouth to The Ochilview in Fishcross.

Since 2000 the charity as went on to raise £86,275 and Brionni's aunt Wendy hopes that the 10 year anniversary walk will push the funds raised by The Brionni Trust past the £100,000 mark.

Commemoration

She told the Advertiser, "When we originally thought about the walk it wasn't going to be a fundraising event more just a commemorative walk to mark 10 years since the first one.

"It would be really nice if we could get past the £100,000 mark and would like to hear from anyone who took part in the original walk 10 years ago.

"We would like to thank everyone who has helped us over the last 10 years - even if it has just been by buying one of our handmade cards.

"We are only a small charity and we have had a lot of support over the years and we really appreciate it."

Anyone is welcome to register for the walk on 5 June and get sponsorship if they wish and Brionni's mum Tracy Alexander will be heading the walk. Donations can be given online at justgiving.com/tracyalexander.

Advance Supplies in Alloa have donated some commemorative t shirts for the day and Michelle Mone from Ultimo has donated an underwear voucher which will be raffled to walkers at The Ochilview at the end of the walk.

This year The Brionni Trust also has seven local people taking part in the Edinburgh Half Marathon on 23 May for The Brionni Trust and there will be a Race Night in The Volunteer Arms in Tillicoultry on 8 May.
