Police officers were out in force on Monday to speak to the public in Dollar.
POLICE spoke to over 100 pedestrians and motorists in Dollar on Monday as they continue to hunt the sex attacker who abducted and indecently assaulted a teenage girl at knife point.
A week on from the 14-year-old's terrifying ordeal officers were stopping and questioning passers-by in an attempt to jog memories and find out more details.
The girl had been walking along High Street and Hillfoots Road at 8.20am last Monday (21 June) when she was threatened with a knife and forced into the man's car.
She was later ordered out of the green car on a farm track just off the B910 in an area near to Linn Mill - close to Castlebridge Business Park. The girl then flagged down a passing motorist who raised the alarm.
And while police say they have received a positive response to their appeals for information they are still keen to speak to anyone who has information no matter how trivial.
Detective Chief Inspector Brian Johnston said they wanted to talk to people who may have been in the area around the time who had possibly been on the school run or driving to work.
He added, "We have had a great response from the public. We can't give an exact number but every day we have had calls from members of the public. We have a detailed description of the person and the vehicle and that is why we are appealing to the public.
"The focus for officers today is the area where the girl was abducted and also the area where she was found."
A team of 20 detectives are involved in the investigation with further operational officers working on the case.
"She has been through a terrifying ordeal," said DCI Johnston. "The young lady is being comforted by her family, she is well and we have a dedicated family liaison officer working with her.
"The aim is to trace the offender to prevent any further crimes occurring and to reassure the public. Everything is being done and they can go about their daily business in this area."
Police are also appealing for anyone who may have been stuck in queueing traffic at a T-junction in Ramshorn - between Dollar and Linn Mill where the driver of a green car was seen acting anxiously.
DCI Johnston added, "If you were in that queue, or if you were that driver, we want to hear from you. Perhaps the green car was behind you and you were concerned by his manner or perhaps you were the driver of the green car and you are not connected with this incident. We need to trace this driver to eliminate him from the inquiry."
Police are keen to trace the man who was described as being in his mid 30s, around 5ft 8in tall, with short receding brown hair and had bad facial skin. He was also believed to be wearing a light-coloured top possibly with a Celtic motif.
One local resident, Marion Brunton, said the village had been shocked by the incident.
She added, "Everybody is affected by something like this but the police response has been quite a reassurance."
Another woman, who did not want to be named, said, "People were quite anxious immediately afterwards. A few days later when people knew the girl was safe things relaxed but it has made us more safety conscious and doubly aware."
