Lauren Paterson has been awarded a Judi Dench Scholarship to Mountview Academy of Performing Arts.

TILLICOULTRY singing sensation Lauren Paterson starts her studies at a top London stage school next month.

The 24-year-old, who has already made her mark in the theatrical world, has been awarded a Judi Dench Scholarship to Mountview Academy of Performing Arts.

Lauren, who has been living at home with her parents Elisabeth and Peter, first hit the headlines six years ago when she shared the stage with pop diva Lulu at Stirling's Hogmanay Show.

Elisabeth told the Advertiser, "Lauren has decided to take a break and go to stage school. She has been thinking about it for some time. Only three applicants out of 20 were chosen. We are delighted for her."

Lauren, whose stage name is Lauren Tilly, made her television debut in 2005 on the popular ITV talent show Stars in Their Eyes. She was the only Scot in the series and performed as American diva Christina Aguilera.

Her career took another impressive boost when she appeared in a show, attended by HM The Queen, in Edinburgh, starring Elton John.

The first of her many pantomime performances saw her take the title role in Cinderella at Ayr Gaiety Theatre in 2005, and she has been a popular choice to appear in stage shows and pantos up and down the country since.

Lauren released an album, 'Desire', with top London record label, Feel2Good Records, writing two of the numbers herself. This was followed by a UK promotional tour.

Her fans in Clackmannanshire have not been disappointed and Lauren has made frequent local appearances over the years including at her former school Alva Academy and Asda Alloa.

Lauren is moving to London to start her one year Post Graduate MA Degree Course at Mountview on 20 September.
