VISITORS to the Wee County can now enjoy a 'golden' welcome from two popular guest houses.
The Wyvis B&B in Tillicoultry is the latest business to be awarded the prestigious Four Star BB Gold accreditation from VisitScotland joining Breacan House in Alloa which retains its top rating awarded last year.
The Gold Award recognises accommodation businesses when they consistently achieve the highest levels of excellence within their VisitScotland star grading, providing good quality accommodation with service that exceeds visitors' expectations.
Irene Goddard, who has been running the Wyvis B&B with her husband Terry for the last 20 years, is delighted with her golden status.
She told the Advertiser, "I have always believed in Clackmannanshire and enjoy welcoming guests from around the world to Tillicoultry."
Grandmother of five Irene describes their converted Victorian mill cottage as a bit of a 'tardis' and a home from home for new and returning visitors. "Running a B&B is something you have got to want to do and I have loved every minute of it."
The Wyvis offers two bedrooms, a guests' sitting room and the dining room overlooks the cottage's garden.
Apart from Terry who is the 'technical man', Irene does everything herself and provides a good Scottish breakfast menu using local products where possible.
The B&B caters mostly for tourists and the occasional business client.
Irene firmly believes in the county's future as a tourist attraction and she is involved with the Clackmannanshire Business Board. She has also been a member of Scotland's Best B&Bs, a voluntary group of 96 four and five star B&Bs, for 13 years. For the last six years she has served on the committee with a remit in marketing.
She added, "The two Gold Awards are a real coup for Clackmannanshire, the only two such awards in the whole of Forth Valley."
Breacan House guesthouse in Alloa is run by husband and wife team Ron and Patricia McSorley. They are delighted to have once again been awarded the Four Star VisitScotland Gold Award.
As reported in the Advertiser last year VisitScotland introduced this award to highlight establishments within the Quality Assurance Scheme that strive to exceed customer expectations on an ongoing basis, whilst taking an innovative approach to customer care. The Gold Awards recognise those establishments offering an exceptional standard of hospitality, service and cuisine well above the expectations for the grading of the establishment.
Ron said, "The latest Gold Award is good for Clackmannanshire, our congratulations to the Wyvis."
The McSorleys, who have been running their B&B for five years, would like to thank all local businesses that have supported them in their endeavours to provide Clackmannanshire with one of the best locations for accommodation in Scotland.
