A MIRACULOUS moggy has proved the old adage of cats and lives after he was strung up by cruel youths and left for dead.
Foxy suffered broken paws, stitches to his belly and lost his tail after the vicious attack in the Clackmannan woods 10 years ago. Amazingly he survived and this year celebrated turning to the ripe old age of 21.
Owner Sandra Hopkins remembers the incident like it was yesterday.
She said, "These boys strung him up in a tree with copper wire and cut his belly open. He managed to struggle free and crawl home with the metal still in his paws.
"I was home when it happened and found him half in and half out of the cat flap. I can still see the picture of him lying there covered in blood. It was a tremendous fright and I don't think I will ever get over it."
Foxy has been in the family since he was two years old, ever since Sandra rescued him from a shelter. Another moggy was shot by an air rifle around the time of Foxy's attack, however, the police caught the perpetrators.
And while Foxy may have recovered from the initial trauma all those years ago, the incident has left more than external scarring.
Sandra said, "He seems back to normal but if he hears a noise or banging he will run for cover. He's very independent. He lets you know exactly what he wants and doesn't want. It's amazing the trust he gave me after the attack and still does. He's very loving."
She added, "People who have their own cats can't believe he's the age he is."
