Jane Lafferty is heartbroken following the killing of one of her lambs.

A SAUCHIE woman has branded the actions of those who murdered one of the family’s hand-reared pet lambs as “pure evil”.

Five months after buying three lambs, Jane Lafferty received the heartbreaking news last week that one of them - Lilly - had been brutally butchered in the middle of the night.

She told the Advertiser, “I am horrified by what has happened. I haven’t slept all weekend, and can’t eat. This is pure evil. I am sickened and shocked by it all.”

Police have labelled it a despicable crime and are calling on any members of the public who might have information on the incident to come forward and help them with their enquiries.

A police statement says, “Between 4.30pm on Thursday 12 August and 9.30am on Friday 13 August a sheep was stolen from a fenced area to the rear of Ochilview licensed premises before being killed a short distance away where the remains were discovered by a horrified dog walker.

“This is a despicable crime that has brought a lot of distress to its owner and the local residents and it is extremely important that we find the person responsible.”

It has forced the owners into moving their two remaining lambs to a safer location a few miles away.

Jane said, “The other two lambs would have seen what happened too.

“They now cry a lot as they are looking for more attention. It has forced us to move them six miles away for their own safety.”

However, she isn’t ruling out bringing them back home to the village in the future - if she can find the money necessary to build adequate protection for them.

She continued, “I am wary if they were brought back that it would happen again, but if we could properly secure them, it would be an option.

“It would be a terrible shame if that couldn’t happen as their presence was well loved by kids and adults in Fishcross.”

Jane said she feels particularly upset for one child, who suffers from cerebral palsy, as she will now miss out on the therapeutic benefits of spending time with the animals.

Anyone with any information about this incident should contact the police on 01786 456000.
