Linda McRoberts and Robert Wright enjoy their wedding at the Harviestoun Country Hotel.

THE big day for a Wee County couple went from disarray to paradise in less than 24 hours.

Last weekend Linda McRoberts and Robert Wright feared their dream wedding was ruined when they discovered the day before that the venue they set their heart on was double booked. But, at the last minute, the wedding and reception was saved by the hard-working staff at Tillicoultry's Harviestoun Country Hotel.

With the final preparations for the wedding at the Park Lodge in Stirling almost complete, Linda's sister, Lauren, dropped into the hotel to hand in the table plan when she was told there was a problem.

Willie, Linda's dad, told the Advertiser, "We were double booked. They had offered us another room but it wasn't what we wanted, plus, we couldn't walk into the gardens because we would walk through the other wedding."

With 60 guests set to attend the couple didn't feel they had many options other than to accept a smaller room.

"Robert phoned me on Saturday morning," said Willie. "He couldn't sleep that night and early on Saturday morning had gone for a look at the room. He said Linda would be upset when she saw it.

"I just thought 'my daughter is getting married in five hours and she doesn't have anywhere to go'. I decided to drive everywhere I could to see if they could take us at the last minute."

With lady luck finally giving them a break Willie's first stop was at the Harviestoun. The hotel had a cancellation and after Willie explained the situation they were happy to pitch in.

"We then had to get in touch with the guests to divert them and at the same time get ready," said Willie.

"When Linda arrived she said it was a lovely setting - she was just so happy. The whole day went fantastically well and just to see the joy on her face when she drove up - I could see the 'wow' in her face.

"Before it I had visualised my daughter smiling and being happy on the day. At one point it didn't look like it would happen but the sun was shining, the court yard looked fantastic and it all just came together."

He said, "When we first found out about the cancellation panic wasn't the word - it was utter disbelief. The Harviestoun really went out of their way and totally made the day."

Michelle Tierney, the Harviestoun's assistant manager, said, "Luckily we were able to do it. Everything was really busy but it went brilliantly.

"The couple had a cracking day although I can't remember that much of it because of the stress levels!"

A spokesperson for the Park Lodge said the cause of the double booking was "under investigation".
