EIGHT local charities have benefited from the goodwill of Alloa's branch of the Yorkshire Building Society.
In order to ensure that good causes have a fantastic start to the New Year, the building society handed out a total of £800 - with £100 gifted to each group.
For one week at the end of last year it ran a campaign called Make a Difference Week and called upon members of the public to pop into the branch on the High Street and nominate their favourite charity or good cause to receive a £100 boost.
Branch manager Mark Reid said, "It's the start of a whole new year for Yorkshire Building Society in Alloa and we wanted to start as we meant to go on with a bit of help for some charities important to us in the branch and to our customers.
"We know times are tough for a lot of charities and Make A Difference Week has given us the chance to make sure that smaller local good causes, who can often be overlooked for a donation, receive the support they need in the new year."
The charities which received a cash injection were Barnardo's Scotland, Our Lady of Loretto Youth Players, Scottish Spina Bifida Association, Winning Wheels, St John's Ambulance, Scottish Society for Autism, Mountains Animal Sanctuary and the Air Cadets (383 Alloa Square).
The air cadets intend to put the money towards creating an IT suite and the setting up of a server - this will help cadets complete the necessary exams.
Flight lieutenant Ronnie MacLeod said, "We're absolutely delighted that the Yorkshire Building Society is helping us out. It's good for the kids mainly and it certainly helps towards the cost of things as prices go up every year. It takes a fair bit of money to keep the squadron going."
In total the Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation has given away £116,000 to 1160 charities as a result of the Make a Difference Week campaign.
The donation to the charities comes from Yorkshire Building Society's unique 'Small Change Big Difference' scheme - this enables members to donate the pennies they earn from the interest on their savings accounts each year to the Charitable Foundation.
When the pennies are added together it makes a big pot of money to support hundreds of charities and good causes in the communities where members live and work.
