A 22-year-old man appeared at Alloa Sheriff Court on Monday accused of attempting to murder a police officer.

James Brand made no plea or declaration when he appeared on petition. He was remanded in custody and is expected to appear in court again next week.

Brand is alleged to have tried to drown a female officer as she and a colleague were making an arrest at Gartmorn Dam on Sunday (1 July) at around 3pm.

The officers had been investigating a report of damage to cars.

Brand was reported to the procurator fiscal over a number of offences, including the attempted murder of an officer and assaulting her colleague.

Enquiries into the damaged cars are still ongoing.

Chief Inspector Stephen Sneddon from Central Scotland Police said, "Both officers, thankfully, suffered minor injuries and are recovering. This type of incident is extremely unusual and the public, and visitors to Gartmorn Dam, should be reassured that this is not the norm."
