THE Kincardine Local Heroes Awards 2012 will celebrate the very best of the village on Saturday 3 November.

A gala dance and evening of entertainment will be held in the Masonic Hall Kincardine, Kilbagie Street, where awards will be bestowed on the winners.

The event began last year to show what Kincardine has to offer and is organised by a sub-committee of the gala committee.

There are six main categories: Best kept garden, best sports person or team, best creative artist, community personality of the year, best young person (under 20), and best outstanding musical ability.

There is also The Alex Brown MBE Memorial Shield, 1st Tulliallan Company Captain 1949 -2001 which will be awarded for unsung hero.

The winenrs are determined by public votes which close on Sunday 16 September.

Linda Horan of the sub-committee said, "It's a way of getting people to think about what is good in the village from a beautiful garden to an great artist.

"We had a fantastic evening of celebration last year and even managed to get Shirley Henderson, an actress from Kincardine best known for her role as Moaning Myrtle in Harry Potter, to present the top trophy.

"This year we have added a category of best community person and extended the artist category to include crafts or jewellery design perhaps. This year there has even been some facebook canvasing by family members.

"We try and get each category sponsored by local businesses and the idea is it's not a fundraising event but we don't want to lose money either."
