Assault man wants fresh start

An Alloa man fined for assaulting a love rival wants a fresh start away from Clackmannanshire.

On Thursday at Alloa Sheriff Court Jamie Burns (26) pled guilty to fighting on 20 November last year.

Depute fiscal Ann MacNeill told the court that Burns, of Pine Grove, was unhappy of rumours circulating that his girlfriend was in a relationship with another man.

At around 12.45am, Burns arrived at a separate house on Pine Grove to obtain his house keys from his girlfriend. On seeing the man in the house, a fight broke out.

Burns threw the first punch to which the complainer retaliated and struggled free, ran for help and contacted the police.

Officers traced the accused to his house later that morning.

It was reported that the complainer suffered bruising on his right-hand side, ribs and hip and bruising on the left-hand side of his face.

Defending, Alistair Burleigh said that his client had made counter charges against the complainer and had only went to the door in the first place as he could not get into his own accommodation.

Mr Burleigh also stated that Burns had a drug problem, but has turned that around considerably.

He said, "He is trying to move out of the area to make a complete start elsewhere."

Sympathising with Burns, Sheriff David Mackie said, "I recognise that there is two sides to this ultimately."

He fined Burns £150 at £10 per fortnight.
