ROAD Traffic Law Scotland is offering advice to make sure people don't put themselves at risk over the festive season.

As Christmas approaches, office parties and family get-togethers can often lead to the consumption of a few alcoholic drinks.

But this can sometimes mean that people put themselves at risk, often unwittingly, when it comes to driving home.

According to the Association of Chief Police Officers Scotland (ACPOS), 'morning after' drink-drivers accounted for more than two thirds of all those caught in Scotland during the first three weeks of its drink-drive crackdown campaign last Christmas.

Michael Lowrie, a lawyer from Road Traffic Law Scotland, which provides legal support to those who have been accused of road traffic offences, says, "Drink-driving can have a huge impact on the lives of those caught, as well as their families, particularly as many face the very real prospect of losing their job and their home. It can also affect future insurance costs, and means that you're now effectively on the radar of the police. Yet drink driving is totally avoidable."

Tips to help ensure that people stay on the right side of the law this Christmas: 1.Don't drink.

2.Forget any sobering up tricks.

3.Call a taxi.

4.Consider the morning after.

5.Remember where you are when it comes to measures.

6.Beware the lunchtime drink.

7.Avoid pressure from others.
