Provost Tina Murphy has congratulated wheelchair athlete Meggan Dawson-Farrell on her selection to the Scottish squad for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Provost Murphy said: "It must be a great thrill, and indeed an honour, for Meggan to have been selected for the Commonwealth Games squad.

"She has always been a source of inspiration and a beacon of light which shines out bright across Clackmannanshire. She is a true role model for everyone to follow. I, and indeed everyone at Clackmannanshire Council and throughout the county, would like to congratulate Meggan on her well deserved selection, which is testament to the hard work which she has put in over the past three years." The 19-year-old former Alloa Academy pupil is looking for sponsorship and will happily speak to anyone willing to help her out with the costs for her Commonwealth Games venture, which is still 18 months away.

She will be given both help and advice from Scottish Athletics and Scottish Disability Sport, but is keen to attract a main sponsor.

Provost Murphy added: "Meggan has not just made her family and everyone in Tullibody proud, but the whole county. I look forward to cheering her on when she appears in Glasgow wearing the Saltire vest of Scotland."
