A Fishcross teenager has her sights firmly set on gold.

As reported in the Advertiser previously, Claire Robertson (16) will travel down to Bath next August as part of the Forth Valley Disability Sports swim team to compete at the GB Special Olympics National Summer Games 2013.

The Alva Academy pupil has been getting in plenty of practice in preparation and has returned with medals from her last three meets - including a gold for freestyle back and a bronze for breast stroke from the Junior Scottish Championships.

Claire said, "I was very happy with the win. I like winning and I swam against a lot of good swimmers. I am thinking about the Olympics as there's rules we need to make sure we know well, but every competition I do helps with my training."

The teen has upped her sessions with Stirling's Arion Swimming Club at The Peak to twice a week in the hope she will emulate her debut GB Special Olympic outing in 2009 in which she took home a gold in gymnastics.

Claire's mum Teresa, who recently made headlines of her own when she dropped dead with a heart attack at work and was brought back to life by colleagues at Beechwood Park Care Home in Sauchie, is fully supportive of her daughter's sporting ambition.

Teresa said, "I'm so proud of Claire. She is doing brilliant with her swimming and is putting a lot of hard work into it."

Teresa, who has been kitted out with a ventricular assist system, is now focused on getting fully fit so as she can make the trip down south with her eldest daughter Angela to cheer on Claire from the sidelines.
