Pilot event takes off...
A PILOT community evening held for residents in South East Alloa was a great success.
The cinema evening on Saturday 15 December saw family movie Brave and adult's Angel's Share being shown with over 80 people turning up.
It was organised by the SE Alloa Link Up programme, which was launched in April, hosted at Community House and funded by Inspiring Scotland.
Sara Diane Stewart, community link worker at Community House, said, "Working in partnership with staff and volunteers from Community House, Hawkhill Community Association, the Bowmar Centre and the Sauchie Community Group we welcomed 69 people for the family movie and 15 for the adult movie. The tuck shop proved a huge success too.
"On the night we collected feedback and had many encouraging comments from local people. Although we borrowed equipment from Sauchie Film Group and Alloa Academy we have a small budget to buy bigger speakers and a screen in the New Year.
"We hope to be able to make it a regular event and are inviting those with an interest in supporting the cinema to a free movie quiz night in Hawkhill Community Centre on Friday 11 January from 6-8pm."
The aim of the link is to bring people from the Bowmar, Mar Policies and Hawkhill communities together to build bridges between individuals and groups with a view to strengthening relationships, and community spirit.
It has future plans to continue developing its community football tournaments, has plans for a dance crew and ideas for environment and gardening activities.
