AROUND 40 young book worms were entertained with creepy crawlies in Alva library at an event to encourage them to enjoy literary works.

The Zoolab session was part of the Tesco Bank Summer Reading Challenge Scotland.

Run by charity The Reading Agency, in partnership with library services and Tesco Bank, it encourages children to join a library and read six books during the summer holidays.

Each year the challenge is based around a theme with this year being "Creepy House", illustrated by award-winning artist Chris Riddell. Children can collect trader cards and smelly stickers, and work towards getting a certificate or medal if they complete the challenge.

Adele Mills, Community Investment Manager at Tesco Bank, said, "Tesco Bank is proud to support the communities in which we operate, through programmes such as the Tesco Bank Summer

Reading Challenge."

Clackmannanshire Council Education, Sport and Leisure Convener, Councillor Ellen Forson added, "It gives the children something to occupy their time during the summer holidays, but more

importantly it is educational and helps maintain their reading skills prior to

returning to school."
