A LOCAL MP has taken his fight to save Alloa Post Office to Westminster.

Gordon Banks spoke at an event organised by the Communication Workers Union (CWU) in London to support post office staff.

It followed the plans announced by the Post Office Ltd to franchise 70 Crown post offices.

The Ochil & South Perthshire MP is currently leading a campaign to prevent the removal of the Maple Court post office in Alloa.

Expressions of interest have already been taken for the service from businesses in the town centre.

Mr Banks said, "I was very grateful to be asked by the CWU to address the meeting and it was good to be able to outline our fight to save Alloa Post Office. "Jobs, services and the impact on Alloa Town Centre are on the line here and I am heartened by the level of support given to the campaign through petitions and attendance at the public meeting.

"The fight goes on and we will need to increase the pressure on Post Office Ltd in the coming weeks to convince them that this is a bad deal for the staff in Alloa, a bad deal for the future of the Post Office in Alloa and a bad deal for Alloa town centre."

Great to see at least one local politician doing his job for the people and not wasting our time and money with tearing Scotland out of the United Kingdom.
