A CHARITY band night in memory of an Alloa paratropper who was killed in Afghanistan will take place next month.

The gig on 11 April remembers Corporal Kevin Mulligan who tragically died in 2009 when a Taliban bomb exploded near his vehicle.

It is the fourth gig of its type in memory of the popular 25-year-old and will raise money for Help for Heroes, a charity that helps those who have been wounded in Britain’s current conflicts.

Paul Kelly, the brother of Kevin’s fiancee, said, “This is a massive event in the entertainment calendar for Alloa. We have been lucky throughout the years to have raised in excess of £18,000 for Help for Heroes.

“This year we have a number of fabulous local bands taking part who are giving up their time free of charge, in order to help the charity. Special thanks must be given to Mike Munro who helps organise the event each year.” Among the bands taking part are Nae Danger, Straight Shooter and Ashpan Jacks. A raffle will also take place on the night with items donated by various local businesses.

Tickets are £10 and available from Floral Gems and Eden Beauty Emporium, both in Alloa.
