Stirling Decorative and Fine Arts Society (SDFAS): This month’s lecture from Stirling Decorative and Fine Arts Society (SDFAS) is at 11am on Thursday 20 March. Stirling Astronomical Society: The society is delighted to welcome Pippa Goldschmidt PhD Astronomy and author of ‘The Falling Sky’. Pippa’s novel was runner up in the Dundee International Book Prize 2012 and was described by Stephen Fry as ‘A delicate and fascinating study of a life in which intellect and external microscopic and cosmic fields interact”. Clacks Camera Club: The club held a meeting on 4 March when members visited Clackmannan Tower in the evening to try and capture some images using Light Painting Techniques. They were very grateful to John and Richard from Stirling Camera Club who came along and shared their knowledge with them. Family History: The next meeting of Central Scotland Family History Society will be held today (Wednesday) 12 March at 7.30pm in the Smith Art Gallery and Museum, Stirling. Forth Valley Friends of Scottish Opera: Scottish Opera is putting on two of Puccini’s operas in the coming months: a concert performance of Turandot at the Usher Hall, Edinburgh on 30 March, followed by a revival of David McVicar’s acclaimed production of Madama Butterfly in May. Appropriately, this month’s talk is about Puccini and these two operas in particular. They look forward to a very informative afternoon with Dr Myra Soutar, academic and musician. All very welcome.
