150 years ago

For the past week or two the lieges about Kincardine, Saline, and neighbouring places, have been in a continued state of uneasiness from the fear of a band of housebreakers who have committed some daring depredations about these quarters.

Approaching grand concert – It will be observed that Harry Cliftonis is to visit Alloa on the evening of the 21st inst., bringing with him a number of talented artistes.

Soiree – The annual soiree of the Abstinence Society in connection with the Evangelical Union Congregation was held on Tuesday evening last – the Rev J Strachan in the chair.

100 years ago

Disturbance in Glebe Terrace – At Alloa Burgh Police Court on Wednesday – Bailie Moir on the Bench – Robert Howieson residing in Castle Street, Alloa, pleaded guilty to a charge of having created a Breach of the Peace in Glebe Terrace on the 10th inst.

Women’s Suffrage – On Wednesday evening a meeting under the auspices of the Alloa Suffrage Society was held in the Council Room of the Museum Buildings – Miss M. Cook presiding, when there was a good attendance, the hall being filled.

Successful needlework competitions – Awards in the recent industrial work competitions in connection with the Girls’ Guildries of the United Kingdom have just been issued and we are pleased to note that three prizes have come to Alloa.

50 years ago

For stealing around £200 worth of mining equipment from mines now disused in this district and also 14 stone of mixed brass and copper from the Meta Brickworks, a 40-year-old Airth electrician was fined £50 at Alloa Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

A warning was given to parents by councillor Frank Dawson at the monthly meeting of the Education Committee that he was convinced that within three months the Alloa Academy fee-paying school would come to an end.

A head-on collision between two cars at Clackmannan in which the four occupants were injured and both vehicles very badly damaged had its sequel at Alloa Sheriff Court on Wednesday when the Alloa drivers of one of the cars was fined £7 for careless driving.

25 years ago

Nine employees are to be made redundant at Alloa Brewery’s local production plant following a reorganisation.
