ORGANISATIONS in the Wee County can tackle the blight of chewing gum on the streets through the campaign, Bin It Your Way!

Local authorities and Business Improvement Districts are invited to become a partner in the campaign funded and organised by gum manufacturers and Zero Waste Scotland, among others.

In return for promoting the campaign the partners will get free advertising, outdoor advertising, media relations and PR support.

Iain Gulland, Director, Zero Waste Scotland, said, “Littered chewing gum is particularly hard to tackle as it can’t be swept up, and it’s blighting many towns and villages around Scotland.

“Valuable resources are being used to remove it. Applying to take part in Bin It Your Way! 2014 is a great opportunity to highlight the issue locally and tackle the blight of chewing gum in your area.” In 2013, 16 areas across the UK were selected and the campaign areas saw an average 40 per cent reduction in gum dropped – and some areas recorded reductions of up to 67 per cent.
