RUNNERS of all ages took part in the Orchil Races in aid of Children’s Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS).

A 2k family fun run, 5k race for 15-18 years and 5k and 10k races for over 18s were held on 22 June and organised by the Margaret Gordon Trust.

The charity, formerly known as the Margaret J Gordon Art & Craft Trust named after founder and chairman John Gordon’s late wife, relaunched last year to raise funds for CHAS – one of Margaret’s favourite charities.

Andrew Dearie came home first in the 10k in 33 minutes and 35 seconds, while the first female runner home was Judith Turner (40 minutes 54 seconds).

Ochil and South Perthshire MP, Gordon Banks, presented the prizes to winners at the Gleneagles Hotel.

The hotel and Elizabeth and Andrew Jackson of the Orchil Fishery were the races’ main sponsors.

Mr Gordon said, “Another event took place on the same day as ours, which may have had an impact on our entry levels, but I’m glad to say that the Orchil Races were a real success and everybody seemed to enjoy the day.

“On behalf of myself and fellow Trustees, Margaret and Sharon, I would like to thank Gordon for supporting the event and presenting the prizes to the winners. I would also like to thank those who competed and attended, and all our sponsors and contributors. I look forward to seeing everyone again next year, and we will be announcing the date as soon as we can.” Highland Spring provided water free of charge while local businesses and politicians, including Mr Banks, provided prize sponsorship.

He said, “I thoroughly enjoyed presenting the prizes at what was a great event. The organisation was fantastic and the scenery provided a magnificent setting for the Margaret Gordon Trust Orchil Races.”
