STEAL HER STYLE... TAYLOR SWIFT I’m not a massive fan of her music but I must admit, her current ‘Shake it Off’ is the most cleverly addictive song I’ve heard in a long time. I can’t stop singing it, which is probably why my son downloaded it – to drown me out. I’m guessing that Taylor Swift sings actual words in her version whereas mine is just a series of noises.

I haven’t ever really ‘got’ what all the fuss is about with Taylor Swift. She’s pretty enough, young, great voice, great figure, really nice person. OK – I get it after all. Well, maybe to a certain degree but she’s hardly the equivalent of what Madonna was in the 1980s. I don’t think they make pop stars like they used to, but hey, I’m old and what would I know. I’m just glad the old ones keep coming back. Spandau Ballet anyone? Boy George?

So Taylor’s in London (cue lots of overexcited yelps of “OMG I love you guys in England”) and here she is stepping out with matching lippie and shoes. I could probably get away with the shoes. I fear the bright pink lipstick might transform me instantly into someone who looks like a mad cat lady but I would definitely give these wheels a spin.

Hers are Guiseppe Zanotti and they’re not even available anymore so I don’t need to tell you how much they cost. These little pink beauties however are from New Look and they cost less than £20 - £19.99 to be precise - so you have a penny left for a cola bottle.

They also come in bright blue which I love. Oooh – which to choose?

Neon Pink Ankle Strap Heels, £19.99 – New Look GIVE IT A WHIRL Just do it!

I have no idea how long it took Nike to come up with that strapline but out of all the straplines in the world, that one is certainly one of the best. How much time do we waste in life procrastinating, worrying that we might fail if we try something, finding reasons not to do something rather than to just do it. Think of all these lost hours and days and how life might be if we’d ‘just done it’.

Fear is the biggest barrier to positive change. Nobody likes to fail or even worse, be seen to fail, so we tend to play it safe, or as safe as we think is reasonable the majority of the time to avoid pointing fingers, shrieks of laughter and the ‘told you sos’.

We don’t like to step outside our comfort zone too often and that’s understandable. Nobody wants to feel overexposed, or to be stacking the odds in the favour of disaster and lining themselves up for an almighty fall.

But…what if we did ‘just do it’ and start breaking out that comfy, cosy little circle? It could be the smallest change to your life which to you, might seem like the biggest thing you’ve done in ages. Joining an evening class to meet people, learning a new hobby. I know a lady who’s in her late sixties who’s just taken up ballet! If we don’t push ourselves a little bit, we end up stagnating. Nothing changes. Everything stays the same and we complain that life could be better and wish for lottery wins to make it so.

Tiny little changes and these little steps make all the difference. They get things moving and life starts to open up again. You just never know unless you try and unless you go. So, ‘just do it’. With or without trainers. Or ballet shoes!

WEBSITE OF THE WEEK www.maryberry.co.uk Can you believe that The Great British Bake Off attracted 13.3 million viewers for the final last week? It’s unbelievable how something as simple as baking has captured the nation’s imagination and left us hooked to our screens every Wednesday at 8pm like a bunch of glazed doughnuts! I missed the final unfortunately, so I wasn’t one of the millions and I must say I feel a bit out of it as a result. Sometimes, it’s just not the same watching it back on iPlayer. Especially when you know the result!

We won’t be seeing Mary Berry (has it gone completely unnoticed that she has a great name for a baker whereas Paul Hollywood sounds more apt for a totally different profession…), for a while, so if you’re missing her already, you might want to take these baking fingers over to your computer and visit her fabby website which has everything you would ever need to know about baking. Really everything! There are lashings of recipes in a seriously big archive and oodles of baking tips (that’ll be my most visited page…). You’ll find the recipes from GBBO and lots, lots more.

Dare I suggest that we start looking at the Christmas section? Ooooh – it still just feels a bit too soon!

MOCKTAIL HOUR Coco Colada Sober October remember? Or did you forget? Here’s my mocktail of the week to keep you on the straight and narrow for Week 2 of Sober for October.

This is just a Pina Colada without the rum. I say just. You probably say “The rum’s the whole point of it!”, and I would agree with you, except when it’s ‘Sober for October’! You’ll have to wait till November to put a dash of rum in this one!
