Fire crews were called to a small kitchen fire at a Chinese takeaway in Alloa on Monday afternoon.

At 1.58pm, the fire service received a report that the Old Canton on Mill Street was ablaze and appliances from Alloa and Stirling fire stations were dispatched.

The area was at a standstill as police shut down the street to allow firefighters to tackle the fire.

No one was hurt as a result of the fire and, although nearby shop workers were evacuated, police say there remains no danger to the public.

A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “Two pumps were deployed, one from Alloa and one from Stirling, at 1.58pm on Monday afternoon.

“The fire broke out in the kitchen to the rear of the takeaway and fire crews, wearing breathing apparatus, used hose reel jets to extinguished the flames.

“Firefighters are now carrying out damping down operations and checking for any signs of fire spread.” Mill Street was closed from Candleriggs to Coalgate for a couple of hours while fire crews worked to secure the building.

An investigation into the cause of the fire will take place in due course.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman added: “We can confirm that officers attended an incident of small kitchen fire in a Chinese takeaway on Mill Street.

“No one was hurt and no residents have been evacuated.”
