A new, quicker and easier system now allows voters to register online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.
Electors will need to supply their name, address, date of birth and national insurance number when registering. Letters were posted to all existing electors in the Clackmannanshire, Falkirk & Stirling Council areas last Friday (24 October).
Pete Wildman, the electoral registration officer, said: “Registering online should make the process easier and quicker for everyone.” The new option is part of the UK Government’s individual electoral registration initiative which came into force last month. Previously, the head of the household was responsible for registering everyone who lives there. From now on, people are required to register as individuals instead.
Most electors will receive a letter advising that they have been confirmed under the new system. However, some may get an “invitation to register” through the mailbox in case they have not been automatically confirmed. They can register online or via completing and returning the form accompanying the letter.
Mr Wildman added: “It’s really important that any forms are returned quickly so that everyone who can register is added to the electoral register, especially with the UK general election coming next may.” More information about the changes is available at www.gov.uk/yourvotematters.
