Police in Forth Valley Division are appealing for witnesses after two on-duty police officers were assaulted during a disturbance in Stirling.

The male and female Constables had responded to a report of shoplifting at a business premises at around 12.40am on Sunday 23rd November and detained an 18-year-old man in Friars Street.

At this time the man struggled violently with the officers, assaulting both in the process.

The male officer suffered and injury to his ankle, while the female officer sustained a hand injury.

Following the incident the man was subsequently charged and will appear in court today (Monday).

Police are now keen to trace other members of the public who were in the area at the time and witnessed the disturbance.

Inspector Kenny McAndrew said: "While carrying out their duties two local officers were subjected to a violent attack, which resulted in injury.

"One member of the public assisted in restraining the male until additional officers arrived and we are keen for this man to come forward and assist with our enquiry.

"In addition, it is believed there were a number of people taking photos and videos on their phones and I would ask anyone who believes they may have footage, which captures the incident to also come forward."
