LONGANNET-BASED ScotAsh reached a key safety milestone at the end of November, achieving 12 years without a Lost Time Incident (LTI).

The company, which makes environmentally friendly cement, works hard to ensure everyone stays safe 365 days a year – with Toolbox Talks and training exercises held regularly to ensure that, if an accident occurred, everyone would know what to do.

Production manager, Jim Donnelly, said: “Reaching the fantastic milestone of 12 years without a LTI is down to a team effort, 365 days a year. Everyone in the team is committed to upholding excellent safety standards.

“All staff at ScotAsh receive health and safety training appropriate to their role, from Toolbox Talks and First Aid Training, to IOSH and NEBOSH courses. We also conduct safety scenario training, involving practical exercises, such as a working at height rescue, or dealing with different mocked-up injuries.

ScotAsh chairman, Allan Everett, added: “During the past year we have held, or organised via external providers, various health and safety related courses, including First Aid, Safety Passport and Visible Felt Leadership refresher training, as well as forklift and mancage training and a course on the prevention and management of Legionella.

“We were delighted that our positive safety culture was recognised once again in September with our eighth consecutive health and safety award from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) and our fourth Gold Medal.”
