New figures sourced from the House of Commons Library by the SNP show that thousands of Scotland’s working families with children are due to lose out by up to £1,000 per year thanks to the recent Tory budget.

The dramatic figures break down the numbers by parliamentary constituency and show that 3800 families and 6600 children in the Ochil and South Perthshire constituency alone will be hit by the changes.

In total 346,000 children across Scotland are in families set to lose out from the proposed cuts to tax credits.

The reduction to child tax credit and working tax credit will overpower the benefit from the Chancellor’s much-wanted increase to the National Minimum Wage.

Tasmina Ahmed-Sheikh, the MP for Ochil and South Perthshire, said: “These figures expose the cruel con trick behind the Tory budget. George Osborne should be supporting our working families, but instead is punishing them to give tax breaks to the richest in society. “It’s an absolute scandal that almost four thousand families and over six thousand children will feel the brunt of this Tory Budget in my constituency alone .

“I support a real living wage, which is a long standing SNP policy, but in the changes announced in the Budget are worth only one third of the loss of income from welfare cuts.

“The Tories obsession with austerity will cost them dearly, but in the meantime thousands of children in my constituency will pay the real price of Osborne’s family- hammering budget.”
