A foreign national lost a four-figure-sum in a fraud.

The victim was recently scammed out of the cash when he was called by someone claiming to be from the British High Commission.

The caller told the person that there was an arrest form out for him as he had not completed his entry forms correctly.

He was then directed to a website to confirm the identity of the caller, who asked for a security deposit so that the victim could remain in the country while checks were conducted.

Police Scotland is advising people to be very wary of calls asking for money to be transferred to an unknown party and that people should do their own checks, not following any instructions given to them.
