A SAUCHIE chippy is in the race to be crowned top Takeaway of the Year at the Food Awards Scotland 2014.

The Bridge will battle it out against five other Scottish shops for the North East title.

Owner Alberto Jaconelli told the Advertiser he was thrilled to make the shortlist.

He said, “It’s great because we didn’t know about it – this is thanks to the public. Customers have taken it upon themselves to vote, which is quite humbling that they’ve went out of their way to do that.

“Obviously it’s a mixture of the whole package: high quality food and they appreciate our personal touch. They see how hard we work with early mornings and late nights.

“It’s nice that our work is being validated and good to know we’re getting quality feedback.” Alberto, who has cheerfully served Clackmannanshire customers for over 15 years, is looking forward to dressing up and attending the awards.

He added, “I’m feeling all of the above – nervous and excited.

“This is a win-win situation. We’ve been nominated, which is great in itself, and we’ll have a chance to chat to like-minded people and pick up ideas on how to improve the business – which is the ultimate goal.

“I don’t feel any pressure to keep up the hard work because it’s what we do anyway.” Alberto wished to thank all those who voted for The Bridge in the Food Awards Scotland 2014.

The glitzy and glamorous ceremony will take place at Glasgow’s Crowne Plaza Hotel on 8 September.

The black tie event will feature 25 award categories, a four-course meal, speeches from dignitaries and entertainment. For more info and tickets, go to www.thefoodawards.info.
