THE garden at Marchglen Care Home has turned into a rural retreat where residents can spend time with their families.

The aim of the ongoing outdoor project was to include and encourage those in the Avondhu unit to make choices for their garden and it is progressing well.

Tanya Taylor-Smith, manager of the Fishcross home, said: “This has been a wonderful project for everyone involved. The garden is now developing into a heavenly retreat that all who live and visit Avondhu can enjoy. The garden hosts herbs, vegetables and array of flowers. It really is a true delight.” Gartinny Nurseries, run by Scottish Autism, was kind enough to donate plants, give advice and help with planting, while the recycling department at Clackmannanshire Council donated recycling boxes for the unit to grow vegetables.

An outside volunteer tidied the garden, cleaned and repainted the memorial bench and sited a bird table and feeders for the residents to view and identify visiting birds.

Artwork from the Avondhu residents was produced using specialist outdoor materials so it could be exhibited on the garden fence, funded by a coffee afternoon and raffle.
