Two friends, who took on a sponsored walk completing the West Highland Way for charity, raised the amazing sum of £1288.

Pauline Wilson and her pal, Linda Murray, completed the 96-mile trail in five days and raised the money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust in memory of Pauline’s daughter, Gillian Somerville, who tragically passed away as a result of the disease in 2007 at the age of 26.

The pair thanked family, friends and colleagues for their outstanding support. Pauline, from Sauchie, told the Advertiser: “It was amazing, a life changing experience.

“One of the highlights of the walk was getting to the top of the Devil’s Staircase [Glencoe].” Pauline and Linda said that despite the unpredictable Scottish weather, which resulted in them getting soaked through due to spells of rain, sleet and snow, completing the trail was a great experience and they may take it on again in the future.

The duo said by the time they reached the end at Fort William, they very absolutely exhausted, but their efforts were all worth it.

Cystic Fibrosis is a life-shortening disease, which affects more than 10,000 people in the UK.

The money raised by Pauline and Linda will aid the Trust’s services and research programme which helps develop treatment to limit the impact of disease and hopefully one day find a treatment to beat it for good.
