AN eight week old fox cub is being cared for by the Scottish SPCA after he was found without his mother next to a busy road in Glasgow.

Scotland’s animal welfare charity was alerted on Saturday, April 2 when the cub was discovered in a state of shock and suffering from concussion on Maryhill Road.

He was taken to a local vet before being brought to the charity’s National Wildlife Rescue Centre in Fishcross, where he has been named Nevada.

Centre manager Colin Seddon said: “Nevada may have been dropped by his mother accidentally and bumped his head in the fall.

“He was very weak at first and had to be put on a drip. Thankfully, he has perked up and is growing stronger day by day.

“We are hopeful that Nevada will make a full recovery, largely thanks to the emergency care given to him by the vet the night he was found.

“We will continue to do everything we can to enable him to return to the wild fit, healthy and able to fend for himself.

“Nevada is our second fox cub of the season following Utah, the three to four week old fox cub who was brought into our care just last week.

“They will be released at carefully selected sites when they are at the right age and stage to be able to survive on their own in the wild.”

Anyone who discovers an injured or distressed wild animal should call the Scottish SPCA animal helpline on 03000 999 999.
