A WEE County care home has been celebrating after receiving a glowing report from the Care Inspectorate and a national award nomination.

Marchglen Care Home in Fishcross, run by Caring Homes, was evaluated by the regulator earlier in October and, for the second time in a row, received top marks.

During the unannounced visit, inspectors assessed the quality of care and support and quality of management and leadership, with both receiving excellent ratings.

And while the other two categories – staffing and environment – were not reviewed this time, all four were rated in the top bracket after their previous inspection last year.

Touring the care home on October 5, the Care Inspectorate found a “range of strengths” at Marchglen, such as the use of individual care support plans, high-quality and varied menus, and strong self-assessment measures.

There was also some special recognition for the care home’s approach to palliative care.

The report concluded: “Overall, we were impressed with the range of care and support that was in this service. The staff team appeared motivated, caring and enthusiastic.”

The inspectors said workers were well supported by the management structure. People we spoke to during this inspection confirmed our view.”

Lorena Love, manager at Marchglen, said she and her staff were “thrilled” with another exemplary endorsement from the Care Inspectorate.

She told the Advertiser: “There is a wonderful community spirit at Marchglen, with residents, family members and staff all working together to make it a great place to be part of, and it’s lovely to see that reflected in the report.

“This is the second time in a row we have received an excellent rating, which is testament to the hard work of so many people, and the investment that Caring Homes has made in ensuring we have the resources we need to deliver the very best care and support.

“This is so much more than just a job, and I feel honoured to be able to play my part in the work we do every day.”

The success of the care home’s performance was coupled with the news of the Aberfoyle unit being shortlisted in the Specialist Service/Unit category at next month’s Care Home Awards.

Judges will announce their decision at a ceremony at the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow on November 18.

Furthermore, the Forth Bay care home in Kincardine, also run by Caring Homes, will have an interest in the awards – its deputy manager Angela Baird is in the running for nurse of
the year.
