IT is shaping up to be a busy few months at Gartmorn Dam.

A number of activities will take place at the Sauchie spot in April, with more planned for the run-up to summer and beyond.

Gartmorn Dam Country Park Development Trust is building up a calendar of events to inform people of what is taking place.

The association works alongside landowners to support the protection, conservations and enhancement of the park.

Its aims include developing outdoor recreation, education and learning facilities, along with promoting it as a place to visit.

Chair of the group, George McColl, said: “On the twenty-second of April we have a litter-pick which starts at 11 o'clock.

“Also on the twenty-second there's a Clackmannanshire riders group which is meeting up there at 2 o'clock.

“On the thirtieth of April we have a treasure hunt up there which starts at 12 and the next meeting of the group is Monday 24 April and that's at six thirty and that's at Sauchie Hall.

“Anybody that wants to come along is more than welcome.”

The idea for a community organisation for the area cropped up in around February of last year, when an email was circulated amongst local groups.

The interested parties got together to discuss a potential venture and, a few meetings later, decided to call themselves the Gartmorn Dam County Park Development Trust.

Since then, members have been busy coming up with ways to raise the profile of the dam and ensure it is a place people want to go.

It has already held litter-pick events with the support of volunteers, applied for Community Matters funding and purchased clean-up equipment.

It is also in the process of putting together plans to hire a seasonal worker who will take care of the facility.

George, from Sauchie, feels passionately about the dam and would like to build upon its popularity.

He said: “I think every time I go up to the dam the car park is always full.

“I think it's a great facility and I would just wish that people would use it a bit more.”

There have been suggestions of holding a Great Gartmorn Dam event which would see people walk or run the route.

In addition, there are thoughts of introducing things like Parkour – exercise that combines running and gymnastics.

There are hopes to hold more litter-picks in the summer months, together with other events or barbecues.
